Tech My School is a non-profit very close to my heart. My friends Robby and Irina Cobbs, super awesome human beings, founded Tech My School to serve schools across Puerto Rico. When they moved to Puerto Rico and went to enroll their kids in school, they got a glimpse into the state of the schools on the island and it wasn't pretty. They decided they had to do something. So they started helping one school. Then more schools. Then more. Somewhere along the way, they established the non-profit and have really ramped up the number of schools they are serving. Training teachers, bringing computers and other tech into the classrooms, providing access to e-books and educational subscriptions.
And the biggest event of the year is the Spring Educators Conference. Teachers from the schools that Tech My School serves attend free. Teachers from other Puerto Rico schools are subsidized. Donations to the non-profit make this whole conference happen--mostly donations from people who are part of the Act 22 and Act 60 tax grant programs on the island.
This was Tech My School's 3rd annual conference. Over 500 teachers registered. 50 speakers. Two full days of teacher training. Some traditional Puerto Rican music and dance performances to celebrate the culture and keep the energy high. The conference took place at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
